Have you read Cicero on the subject of the traitor? And author C.S. Lewis on “social worker” tyranny?

Lewis, I think, was being too nice. He gave the “social worker tyrants” credit for having a conscience and well-meaning motives. They don’t have either, not the high “honchos”, only the little stooges mean well and have bleeding hearts. Lewis’s point, I think, is that a tyrant motivated by greed and a lust for power might show favoritism, be indulgent for a moment, or just plain take a day off. The other kind, never.

Anyway, you did a good job of putting two ideas together.

Cicero: “A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less
formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the
traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers
rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government
itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents
familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he
appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He
rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to
undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that
it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.”

C.S. Lewis: “Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its
victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under
robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s
cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be
satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us
without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
