Noncitizen Voting For School Board Failing

With 96 percent of precincts counted, San Franciscans were rejecting 51 percent to 49 percent a measure that would allow noncitizen parents and guardians of public school children to cast votes for candidates for San Francisco’s Board of Education.

Proposition F would extend that right to foreign citizens living in San Francisco if they have a child enrolled in the San Francisco Unified School District.

Opponents said the measure is clearly illegal and an affront to immigrants who worked hard to obtain citizenship.
